Who can participate?

Children who've completed kindergarten through fifth grades

·       K/1 - completed kindergarten or  1st grade
·       2/3 - completed 2nd or 3rd grades
·       4/5 - completed 4th or 5th grades      

 

Why is Kids University special?

·       Small group size - 18 - 20 children
·       Full day enrollment is limited to 60 children each session.
·       Experienced teachers lead all activities
·       Qualified adult supervision
·       Diverse programming emphasizes creative activities and critical thinking
·       Kids University has been going strong for 13 years!

 

What is ½ day participation?

·       Program runs from 8:30 - 12:30
·       Enjoy  three academic enrichment courses
·       New courses each session. Course descriptions on page
·       Morning snack provided
·       Early drop off 7:30 - 8:15 a.m.

 

What is full day participation?

·       Program runs from 8:30 - 5:00 pm
·       Includes three morning courses
·       Each afternoon session has themed activities

Session 4 - Amazing Inventions                                           

·       PLUS  team games and fitness, art,  community and ASU campus explorations and presentations

·       K/1 in the afternoon combines quiet/reading time with their thematic activity period

·       Morning and afternoon snack

·       Lunch must be brought from home and cannot require refrigeration.

·       Late pick up  5:15 - 6:00 pm

Discounts for Full Day

  • $15 per child (2nd & 3rd child) family discount for additional siblings who attend the same FULL day session

Extended Care (Early drop off and/or Late Pick up)

  • $10 per child for Sessions I and III
  • $20 per child for Sessions II and IV
  • Early drop off – 7:30 am – 8:15 am
  • Late pick up – 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm


Cancellations and Refunds
  Refunds are granted for registrations made only if requested by the refund deadlines for each session. Refunds are given up to the “last day for refund dates” listed. No refunds are given after the dates listed below.
 

Last day to register:

  • Session I - May 28
  • Session II - June 4
  • Session III - July 2
  • Session IV - July 9

Last day for refunds:

  • Session I - May 27
  • Session II - June 3
  • Session III - July 1
  • Session IV - July 8

* Cancellation fee: $15 per registration

Also, ASU Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel any course in a session due to low enrollment. All fees are refunded if a class is cancelled by ASU and there are no other classes in which the parent wishes to enroll the child.


Course Substitutions
  When a student's first choice cannot be honored because the course is full, the second choice will be substituted. Parents will be notified by phone, mail, or e-mail of substitutions. Parents should indicate on registration form if they do not wish their child to be enrolled in the alternate class choice. They will then be contacted regarding transfer or refund options.


Discipline
  The Kids' University's policy statement for student behavior is as follows: Students who choose to behave in ways which interfere with other students' opportunity to learn and/or the instructor's teaching, in so doing choose to forfeit their own opportunity to participate in Kids University. Parental support and cooperation is appreciated. No refunds will be made for students dismissed from courses for disciplinary reasons.

Waiver of Liability: A parent must sign it before a child may attend a class.

  Morning Directors

Barbara Gleitsmann is a retired Assistant Principal.

Leasa Jarman is a retired Special Education teacher.

Afternoon Director

Debra Hundt is a teacher at Stevens Creek Elementary.

All morning and afternoon activities are taught by experienced school teachers.  Additional staff includes morning and afternoon teaching assistants and senior camp assistants.     

Kids University Coordinator

Arlene Schler is a Program Coordinator for Augusta State University Continuing Education

Location and Directions
  All activities will be in Galloway Hall and the ASU Pool

Special Driving Directions to the KU drop-off/pick-up area will be available once you have registered.

General directions to the ASU campus:

From I-20: - Washington Road Exit  -- to the Walton Way campus
Coming from South Carolina: Take Washington Road exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto Washington Road and get into the middle lane.

Coming from Atlanta: Take Washington Road exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right and get into the middle lane.

The middle lane will become the right lane as lanes merge together. Drive approximately 1.2 miles (you'll pass a TGI Friday's and Lone Star Steakhouse on the right as you drive). In front of National Hills Shopping Center (located on left),  you'll see a large water tower on the right. This is Berckmans Road . Take a right. Continue 2.2 miles. Berckmans Road turns into Highland Avenue at Wheeler Road (Surrey Center Shopping Centre).   Get into the left lane. At Walton Way , take a left. Get into right lane. Pass three traffic signals (Highland Ave. and Monte Sano). Pass Arsenal Avenue and either of the next two turns will take you onto the ASU campus: the main entrance at Fleming, or Katherine Street.

Heading East on I-20 , exit at Wheeler Road . Turn right onto Wheeler Road . Get into the right lane and continue to the intersection with Walton Way Extension. Turn Right onto Walton Way Extension and move immediately to the left lane. In 0.4 miles, the left lane veers left into Walton Way . Continue on Walton Way to the top of the hill and look for the campus on the right.

From downtown, at the intersection of 15th and Walton Way , travel west on Walton Way (away from downtown) 1.9 miles uphill. The campus will be to the left.
