MUSIC CONSERVATORY PROGRAM CLASSES
Six Music Classes for Adults and
Teenagers
Classes for Adults. The classes listed
below are a fun and economical way to explore a new performance area or
other musical topic. They usually meet each Fall and Spring semester once a
week in the evenings or on Saturday. The information below refers to
the classes that will start in January, 2010. Classes meet in the Fine
Arts Center or another location at Augusta State University. See the
information and link below in order to register for any of these courses.

Guitar Class for Beginners. A Group
lesson for teenagers and adults who have little or no previous training
on guitar. Maximum of 12 students accepted each term. The class will
include correct posture and hand position , tuning, chords, simple
melodies, and elementary music reading skills. Eight 1-hour classes,
$99. First class meeting is at 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 28, 2010.

Music Fundamentals. This course is
designed to foster an understanding of music notation in order to
improve music reading skills. Both an understanding of musical terms and
practical exercises will be addressed. 10 classes, $124 . Maximum of 15
students for each class. First class meeting is at 7:00 PM, Wednesday,
January 20, 2010.

Piano Class for Beginners. A class
designed for teenagers and adults with little or no previous experience
on piano. The Piano Class will include developing keyboard technique
along with elementary music reading skills. Eight classes, $99 Maximum
of 15 students accepted each term. First class meeting is at 9:00 AM,
Saturday, January 23, 2010.

Voice Class. A group lesson for
teenagers and adults with little or no previous training who like to
sing and would like assistance with various aspects of the art.. The
class reviews and reinforces elements of healthy singing: vocal
production, breath control, stage presence, pitch, etc. Maximum of 15
students accepted to each class. Eight classes, $99. First class
meeting is at 6:30 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Music Reading Skills for Guitar and Bass Players.
The class designed to develop music reading skills for guitarists and
bassists utilizing funk, rock, blues, latin, country, classical, and
jazz styles to build skills. The class will develop the skills through
performing written parts—both melody lines and bass lines—and drills
that will develop note and rhythm recognition. Five one-hour classes,
$69.
First class meeting is Tuesday, January 19,
2010.

Improvise! Make the Music Up As You Go.
Unleash your hidden spontaneity. This class is designed to develop your
ability to perform on the spur of the moment. After introductory
guidance and practice exercises, students will learn to isolate musical
elements by listening, and to reapply these elements by creating melodic
patterns in real time performance. In this workshop setting, students
will work with the instructor and with each other to develop practical
improvisatofy skills. Students should be able to perform major and
minor scales on their instrument, and have at least a rudimentary
knowledge of music note reading. Eight 90-minute classes, $149. First
class meeting is Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Note:
A registration form must
be included with payment for each class or ensemble and for every set of
lessons. This is to ensure correct registration information. The first
registration for any person in any Conservatory program must be filled out
completely. Subsequent registration forms really need only the student’s
name, the teacher’s name, any changes in telephone, mailing address, or
email information, and the relevant payment information, since we should
already have the unchanged information in our computer database.
