COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Amazing Africa - Let's discover several African countries, their culture and unique plants and animals. We'll make our own African face mask.

AquamarineXtreme – Do you know from which ocean and country the tropical fish in your aquarium really come?  Learn about the ecology, chemistry, and geography of aquariums, and enjoy a visit from an aquarium expert!

Art Down-Under - We'll create our version of Australian bark art and even make didgeridoos!

Bach to Rock-Each day we'll learn about a different composer, their music and make some music of our own. Each session of  Bach to Rock a different group of 5 composers from different decades will be explored.

Book Cooks – Join us as we combine math, literature and cooking!  We’ll estimate, graph, measure, and read directions.  What’s more, we’ll be perfecting our culinary skills! 

Building Structures - Let's have fun building bridges, towers, and other supporting structures.  How big can we go? How strong?

Case of the Missing Millionaire – Unfold a mystery through chromatography, fingerprinting, and many other methods used by forensic scientists.

Catching Chocolate Fever - Enjoy writing and art activities to accompany your group reading of this entertaining story.  You might even get a real chocolate freckle!

Coral Reefs – Dive into the ocean and discover the creatures that make up a coral reef.  Meet a real scuba diver, too!

Deep Blue Sea - Let’s go underwater and discover ocean plants and animals.  We’ll make salt water pictures, listen to whale sounds, and build models of many ocean animals.  Join our underwater trip!

Deserts Down Under – Australia boasts unusual animals, plants and people that have learned amazing ways to thrive in a difficult environment.

Deserts of the World - Explore the folklore and exotic plants and animals of the major deserts of the world…from the Sahara to the Gobi.

Elephants: Fact and Fiction – Discover imaginary and real elephants from Babar King of the Elephants to African elephants who work for living.

Excel 101 - Create surveys, collect data, learn how to graph and use spreadsheets with this popular software.

Family Tree Art - You'll create your version of your family tree as you learn about the art created by the famous "Dot" man from Georgia - George Andrews.

Fantastic Frogs! Beautiful Butterflies! – We'll explore literature and science when we discover unusual species of butterflies and frogs and learn about their life cycles.

G’day Mate! - Learn about Australia’s unique geography, plants and animals—from kangaroos, koalas and kiwi to the Great Barrier Reef!

Giants of the Sea – What kind of whale is Shamu?  How do giant squids and octopus move? We’ll use math and science skills when we explore these fascinating animals.

It's Hot! It's Cold! - Why do volcanoes erupt? How big are icebergs? Explore amazing landforms and create your own landform models that erupt.

Join the Trash Can Band - Be loud, creative and release your energy by beating on common household objects and creating music!

Kids Computer Art! – Draw pictures, color and make slide shows of the story you write while learning about scrolling, typing and selecting icons.  

Lego Engineering: Double period class

K/1 – Simple Machines from Seesaws to Rafts -Build models of simple machines while investigating gears, rotation, levers, stability and designing mechanical toys. 

2/3 - Magnetism and Measurement – Build several models small and large and learn about magnetism, scales, levers, pulleys, and measurement devices.

4/5 – Machines with Power – Build a power car, dragster, insect walker, and a dogbot and investigate movement and energy, effect of wheel size and mass on movement, cams and cranks.

Magic of Manners - Learn the magic of etiquette while eating, setting the table, talking on the phone, introducing your friends and enjoying other role playing situations.

Math &Grammar Skills Review:  Double period class  Enjoy an interactive review of important math and grammar concepts plus gain test taking skills for the CRCT.

Math Around the World - Practice mental math, devise game strategies, and develop your number sense as you play math games from around the world.

Math Fact-a-Mania – Have fun while practicing your math skills.  Write, sing, and play while improving your understanding of numbers and their properties.

Math on the Menu - Solve the real-life challenges of opening a restaurant--plan and expand the menu, determine ingredients, analyze costs, set prices and design a floor plan.

Music USA - Jump into marching, dancing, beating and singing our way across America while learning how to read and write music.

Ni hao-Hello China - Let’s travel across the world to learn about the people of China.  We'll explore the different regions of China, discover its unique celebrations and exciting history.

Origami – Learn the ancient art of Japanese paper folding as you make your own beautiful take home creations!

PowerPoint 101 – Learn how to make a computer presentation that incorporates pictures, graphs and table.  Practice researching a topic using Kids Search Engines.

 PowerPoint Entrepreneur - Design a new invention or service, create business cards, advertise your product with a flyer, and develop a PowerPoint explaining how to use your creation.

Puppets on Parade - Create your own puppet show with scenes and characters and music. Your teacher will provide guitar accompaniment.

Show me the $$$ - Learn the importance of money. Identify coins, tell their value, count and make fair trades!

Signing Fun – You’ll have hands-on fun learning the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture.  Come sign with us!

Skin & Bones – We’ll learn about the bones and systems of our incredible body, their names, locations and how to keep them healthy.

Sound Tales - Beat, shake and play your way through your favorite stories.  Like sound engineers we'll add music and sound effects to stories and poems to make them more exciting.

Splish! Splash! Science! - Can you make clay float?  Bring your questions and enjoy the water as we make things float, sink and carry cargo.

Take a Chance on Math- Learn about statistics and fractions while you enjoy games with coins, spinners and dice to understand probability.

Terrific Tree Homes - We'll explore real and imaginary animals that make their homes in trees when we combine science and literature.

Things that Fly - We'll paint, make collages and create butterflies, birds and a 3D fish that swims through the air.

Travel to Nims Island - We'll invent our own island to explore complete with plants and animals.  Applying GPS and mapping skills we'll decide where in the world to locate our island!

Webkinz Economics – Let’s talk about Webkinz (bring your favorite!) and create an economic plan for a prosperous lifestyle for both you and your pet.  Learn how this game compares with the real world of economics.

What’s the Matter? - Just what is a solid…a liquid…or a gas?  Find out about each one through different experiments each day.

Who Borrowed Mr. Bear? - Come learn some forensic science as we solve the mystery of who borrowed Mr. Bear.

Wings and Things - Explore the clear blue skies with us.  We will cover the physics of flight, make paper airplanes and parachutes, and test some of our flight creations.

Wonderful New Zealand – Journey to New Zealand and discover its unique ocean life, plants and animals from a recent visitor to this extraordinary place.
