GRU CONSERVATORY SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS
Summer music camps for middle and high school students are offered each year in June. Each camp begins on Monday and ends with a concert on Friday evening.
Chamber Music Institute - June 3-7, 2013
- Dr. Christine Crookall, Dr. Clara Park, and Dr. Laura Tomlin, Directors

- Coached chamber music sessions for advanced players
- Audition required for acceptance; audition date is Sunday, April 21.

Choir Camp - June 10-14, 2013

- Class voice instruction
- Electives in guitar, piano and Georgia All-State audition prep

Orchestra Camp - June 17-21, 2013

- Two orchestras for intermediate and advanced strings players
- All campers play chamber music
- Cello choir and Celtic music group
- Music theory and other classes

Band Camp - June 24-28, 2013

- Two concert bands for middle and high school students
- Jazz band and sectional ensembles
- Rhythm circles, improvisation, African drumming, and steel drum ensembles
- Electives in guitar and piano

Information Common to All Camps
Each camp -
- is a week-long (Monday through Friday) experience;
- ends with a Friday night concert;
- provides middle and high school students with intensive musical experiences and plenty of fun;
- includes academic classes addressing important areas of musicianship;
- gives students the opportunity to rehearse and to perform in an acoustically satisfying auditorium, the Maxwell Theatre;
- schedules master classes taught by faculty experts;
- has opportunities for socializing and getting to know musicians from other schools, and
- offers optional instructional areas from which campers may choose.
Daily Lunch
Full-day campers (Choir, Band and Orchestra) will eat lunch together every day at the Jaguar Student Activities Center. Lunch can be purchased there or campers may bring their own lunches.
Friday Schedule
At 5:00 p.m. on Friday, the campers stay on campus for a pizza party, after which camp t-shirts are presented.
Friday Night Concert
The Friday night concert is a demonstration of much of the music the campers have worked on throughout the week. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
